Rogers’ 26 points, 10 rebounds help Baylor roll past MVSU 82-50
WACO, Texas (AP)—Kevin Rogers had 26 points and 10 rebounds, with a pair of dunks in Baylor’s game-turning run, and the Bears beat Mississippi Valley State 82-50 on Monday night.
The Bears (6-1) finally put the game out of reach with a 14-0 run over a 4 1/2 -minute span early in the second half. Rogers’ dunks sandwiched a 3-pointer by Tweety Carter at the end of the spurt that put Baylor up 45-30 with 15:15 left.
Mississippi Valley State (0-8), which led briefly before halftime, had four turnovers and three missed shots during Baylor’s run after Stanford Speech’s 3-pointer got Valley within 31-30 in the opening minute of the second half.
The Delta Devils never got closer than 13 points after that, and trailed by as many as 34.
Rogers made 12-of-15 shots. Carter had 17 points with four 3-pointers, while Aaron Bruce had 14 points and Henry Dugat 10.
Eric Petty had 14 points for Valley and Carl Lucas added 12.
Carl Lucas’ 3-pointer with 5 minutes left in the first half put Valley up 20-19. The two teams then traded baskets, but Baylor then surged ahead to stay with seven straight points.
Baylor, coming off a 67-64 loss to No. 8 Washington State in which it blew a 14-point lead in the second half, is 27-0 against Southwestern Athletic Conference teams. The Delta Devils lost 71-26 at Washington State last month.
