Troy pulls away in 2nd half to beat A&M-Corpus Christi 73-52
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP)—O’Darien Bassett had 17 points and Troy outscored Texas A&M-Corpus Christi by 20 in the second half of a 73-52 victory Saturday.
The Trojans (2-4) led 30-29 at halftime after making just seven field goals and shooting 26 percent in the first half. They were 15-of-26 from the field (58 percent) in the second half, including 6-of-9 from 3-point range.
The Islanders (1-4) went ahead 31-30 on a layup by Chris Daniels to start the second half, but Bassett and Justin Jonus, the game’s other double-figure scorer with 14, had all the Troy points on a 14-4 run that put the Trojans ahead 44-35 with 15:02 remaining.
A&M-Corpus Christi got no closer than seven after that.
The Islanders shot just 28 percent in a 23-point second half. Daniels led them with nine points, while Justin Reynolds had eight points and 11 rebounds.
