INDIANAPOLIS (AP)—George Hill scored 30 points, including 10-of-11 free throws, and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead IUPUI to a 89-77 victory over Massachusetts on Saturday night.
Jon Avery added 25 points and Austin Montgomery contributed 12 points for the Jaguars (5-2), whose superior free throw shooting helped hold off the Minutemen.
IUPUI shot 84.6 percent (22-27) from the foul line, while Massachusetts managed only 50 percent (6-12).
The Minutemen (5-2) led 43-32 at the intermission. But IUPUI rallied in the second half, gaining the lead for good when Hill hit a 3-pointer with 7:35 left to make it 65-62 Jaguars.
Massachusetts, led by Ricky Harris’ 23 points, stayed closed until the closing 2 minutes, when Avery dunked a shot to make it 83-72 and give the Jaguars a double-digit lead they held on the rest of the way.
Gary Forbes added 12 points for Massachusetts, while Luke Bonner added 11 and Dante Milligan had 10. The IUPUI bench outscored the Minutemen 28-16. Massachusetts was 50 percent from the field, while the Jaguars managed 48 percent.
