Weddle leads Tennessee-Martin past St. Peter’s
JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP)—Marquis Weddle scored 30 points—including six 3-pointers—to lead Tennessee-Martin to a 78-74 win over St. Peter’s on Saturday.
Lester Hudson added 16 points and nine rebounds for the Skyhawks (4-4), while Carlos Wright added 11 points, four assists and four steals. Wesley Jenkins had 19 points for the Peacocks (3-3), while Todd Sowell recorded his fourth straight double-double with 10 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.
The teams traded baskets early on before Tennessee-Martin took command with a 13-0 run midway through the first half. St. Peter’s eventually cut the lead to 37-36, but Wright’s 3-pointer with four seconds left gave the Skyhawks a 40-36 lead at the break.
Tennessee-Martin seemed to take control of the game with an 11-3 run midway through the second half, but they had trouble putting away the Peacocks, who cut the deficit to 74-71 on Jenkins’ 3-pointer with 26 seconds left to play.
Tennessee-Martin, though, sealed the win by going 4-for-6 from the free throw line in the closing seconds.
