PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP)—J.R. Inman scored 16 points and Jaron Griffin’s two late free throws gave Rutgers the lead for good in the Scarlet Knights 54-50 win over Princeton Saturday.
Griffin added 13 points for Rutgers (5-2), which handed Princeton (2-5) its fifth straight loss and beat the Tigers for the eighth time in the last nine meetings. Inman and Hamady Ndiaye each had eight rebounds.
Princeton got 13 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and three steals from Lincoln Gunn.
Rutgers, which took its first lead of the second half at 37-36, opened its biggest advantage of the game at 48-43 before a three-pointer by Koncz and a backdoor layup by Marcus Schroeder tied it with 3:06 remaining.
After each team missed several chances to go ahead, Griffin was fouled on a missed shot by Schroeder and made both free throws with 1:01 remaining to make it 50-48.
Rutgers then forced a turnover with 27.6 seconds left and Corey Chandler was fouled. Chandler missed both free throws but the rebound was tapped back to him, he was fouled again and made both.
Koncz scored with 8.8 seconds left to cut the deficit to two, but Anthony Farmer made two foul shots with 7.4 remaining to seal it.
After four lead changes and a tie to start the game, Matt Sargeant hit a three-pointer to put Princeton up 12-10, and the Tigers would not trail for the rest of the half.
Gunn scored five points in a 7-0 run that gave Princeton 30-22 advantage, and Rutgers closed within 30-25 by halftime. The Tigers built their lead on 6-for-10 shooting from three-point range.
