Nicholls State’s 2nd victory is UNO’s 1st loss
NEW ORLEANS (AP)—Ryan Bathie had 18 points and three of his teammates were in double figures as Nicholls State upset New Orleans 75-60 on Saturday.
Dominic Friend added 17 points, while Michael Czepil tallied 11 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Gil Verner came off the bench for 10 points.
It was the second non-conference road win in three seasons for NSU (2-6), and ended a five-game losing streak.
Bo McCalebb, UNO’s all-time leading scorer, led the Privateers (4-1) with a game-high 27 points, including 8 of 9 free throws. None of his teammates scored more than seven points.
The Colonels never trailed and led by at least six for most of the game.
NSU, which shot 61.9 percent in the second half, held UNO to a 36 percent night. The Privateers were 7-for-26 from the 3-point line, 1-for-12 in the first half.
The two teams combined for 45 turnovers, with UNO committing a season-high 24.
