Huffman scores 18 points in leading UAB to win over Cincinnati
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP)—Reggie Huffman scored 18 points and Walter Sharpe added 15 to lead UAB to a 73-54 victory over Cincinnati on Saturday.
UAB (6-3) led 34-27 at halftime and built the margin to 26 points in the second half as the Blazers coasted to their fourth straight victory.
Adam Hrycaniuk scored 16 points and Marvin Gentry had 14 for Cincinnati (4-3).
Robert Vaden scored 13 points and Lawrence Kinnard had 11 for UAB. Huffman grabbed nine rebounds, all on the offensive boards, to lead UAB to a 36-29 rebounding advantage.
He scored on a layup for the first points of the game and UAB was ahead all the way. Sharpe and Frank Holmes scored two inside baskets apiece to spark a 13-0 run that gave UAB a 27-12 lead.
Gentry hit two 3-pointers late in the half to pull Cincinnati to within seven points at halftime, but UAB took control with a 15-2 spurt to start the second half.
Huffman had three baskets in that stretch to help give UAB a 49-29 lead.
Cincinnati could get no closer than 18 points the rest of the way and the Bearcats saw their three game winning streak snapped.
