Smiley scores 26 as Buffalo beats Tulane 65-51
AMHERST, N.Y. (AP)—Sean Smiley was perfect from beyond the 3-point arc, scoring a game-high 26 points as Buffalo defeated Tulane 65-51 Thursday night.
Smiley drained all five of his 3-point attempts. Four in the first half sparked a 14-4 Buffalo (4-3) run as the Bulls opened a 17-point lead at halftime and led by as many as 19 in the game.
Eleven players scored for Buffalo, while the Bulls’ bench outscored Tulane’s 43-9.
Kevin Sims led Tulane (3-2) with 15 points while David Gomez had 13 points and six rebounds. The Green Wave was dismal in the first half, shooting just 8-of-27 from the floor and just 1-of-6 from beyond the arc.
Tulane shot 34 percent (17-of-50) from the field, 15-of-19 from the foul line.
The Bulls, meanwhile, were 21-of-43 from the field (48.8 percent) and 6-of-13 from beyond the arc while out-rebounding Tulane 32-26, with 26 coming off the defensive boards.
