Valpo bench helps Crusaders beat Western Michigan
VALPARAISO, Ind. (AP)—Shawn Huff scored 19 points including 3 of 4 3-pointers to lead Valparaiso to a 77-65 victory over Western Michigan on Wednesday night.
Urule Igbavboa had 15 points and seven rebounds for the Crusaders (5-1). Huff went 4-of-5 from the free-point line.
The Broncos (4-3) had four players score in double figures but couldn’t match Valpo’s bench, which outscored Western Michigan’s 26-16. Valpo also outscored the Broncos in the paint, 30-20, and outrebounded them 31-30.
Joe Reitz led Western Michigan with 16, including 8 of 8 free throws. Michael Redell and David Kool had 11 each and Martelle McLemore scored 10 points.
The Crusaders outshot the Broncos from the field, going 26-of-45 (57.8 percent) compared with Western’s 19-of-52 (36.5 percent).
Valpo led 40-26 at the half. Western Michigan outscored the Crusaders 39-37 after the break.
