McLendon scores 17 in Hartford’s 70-64 win over Army
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (AP)—Warren McLendon scored 17 points and Hartford held off a late rally by making free throws in a 70-64 win over Army on Wednesday night.
Hartford (4-4) took the lead for good on two free throws by Jaret Von Rosenberg with 51 seconds remaining, a minute after Army (2-4) tied the game at 64 on a jumper by Josh Miller.
The Hawks’ defense forced Army into a shot clock violation with 15 seconds to play. The Black Knights were then forced to foul, and Von Rosenberg hit two more free throws to make it a two-possession game.
Joe Zeglinski pulled down a rebound off an Army miss and hit both his free throws to close out the scoring.
McLendon led four Hartford players in double figures. Zeglinksi and Michael Turner had 11 points apiece and Morgan Sabia added 10 points and nine rebounds.
Jarell Brown scored 24 points for Army on 9-of-18 shooting, and Miller chipped in 16 points.
Army trailed by 15 at the break.
Hartford shot 21-of-31 from the foul line for the game, while Army attempted only seven free throws and made five.
