Detroit rallies to beat E. Michigan, 72-68

YPSILANTI, Mich. (AP)—Josh Samarco scored 18 points and Zach Everingham added 13, including a critical 3-point field goal late, to lift Detroit to a 72-68 victory over Eastern Michigan Wednesday night.

The Titans (4-2) scored seven straight points, breaking a 61-61 tie in a two-minute span late in the second half. Carlos Medlock, who led Eastern Michigan (3-3) with 21 points, hit two free throws in the final minute to bring the Eagles to within 68-65, but Samarco hit four free throws in the final 20 seconds to finish off the win.

Four Detroit players reached double figures, including Michael Harrington who had 12 points and Chris Hayes who added 11.

Detroit trailed by as many as 10 points for the first nine minutes of the second half before using a 16-3 scoring run to take their first lead of the night, 55-54, on Eulis Stephens’ driving lay-up with 7:37 remaining.

After Jon Goode extended the Titans’ lead to 61-58, Eastern Michigan reserve Jarred Axon hit the Eagles’ 11th 3-point field goal to tie the score with 3:24 remaining.

Eastern Michigan led 41-33 at the half.

Jesse Bunkley scored 16 points and gave Eastern Michigan its biggest lead of the first half, 33-19.
