Burns leads DePaul to 85-70 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi
ROSEMONT, Ill. (AP)—Draelon Burns tied a career-high with 32 points and was 8-for-8 from 3-point range to lead DePaul to a 85-70 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Wednesday night.
DePaul (2-2) trailed 56-55 with 11:14 left, then Burns took over for the Blue Demons.
He scored 11 straight points for DePaul during a 11-4 run. After back-to-back 3’s he made a jumper to give DePaul a 66-60 lead with 8:19 left and DePaul never trailed again.
Karron Clarke scored 15 points and freshman Mac Koshwal added 17 points and eight rebounds as the Blue Demons bounced back from a loss to North Carolina A&T on Saturday.
Kevin Perkins finished with 19 points for A&M-Corpus Christi (1-3) and 7-foot center Chris Daniels added nine points for the Islanders.
Trailing 21-17 midway through the first half, DePaul outscored A&M-Corpus Christi 15-2 to take a 32-23 lead. DePaul led at the half 38-35.
Burns led all scorers in the first half with 16 points and made all four of his 3-point attempts.
Burns, who scored 32 in Saturday’s loss, is the fifth player in DePaul history to score 30 or more points in back-to-back games. The other players are George Mikan, Mark Aguirre (twice), Stanley Brundy and Tom Kleinschmidt.
