Jackson scores 30 as UTEP beats New Mexico St. 84-76
EL PASO, Texas (AP)—Stefon Jackson scored a game-high 30 points to help lead Texas-El Paso to an 84-76 win over New Mexico State on Tuesday night.
New Mexico State led 42-40 at halftime of a tight game that saw 12 lead changes and seven ties.
Jackson went 13-for-15 from the free throw line and the Miners (4-1) shot 70 percent from the line as a team. Jackson also led the Miners with seven rebounds.
Marvin Kilgore scored 17 for UTEP and Randy Culpepper added 12.
Justin Hawkins led New Mexico State (2-5) with 29 points, including 15 from 3-pointers. Wendell McKines scored 11 points and had 14 rebounds. Hatila Passos added 11 points.
UTEP shot 41 percent from the field for the game to the Aggies’ 46 percent.
UTEP converted the Miners’ 15 turnovers into 22 points. The Miners turned the ball over eight times, resulting in 10 points for New Mexico State.
