Prairie View holds off late rally to beat Norfolk State 76-71
PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (AP)—Freddie Edo came off the bench to lead Prairie View with 19 points and the Panthers stymied Norfolk State’s second-half rally to pull out a 76-71 win on Monday night.
Jonathan Dixon added 13 points for Prairie View (2-3) as the Panthers sent Norfolk State (1-4) to its fourth straight loss.
Prairie View took a 41-22 lead into halftime and led by 19 points with seven minutes remaining.
That’s when Michael Deloach spurred Norfolk State’s late charge and the Spartans drew the score to 74-71 with 37 seconds remaining. Brian Ezeh hit two free throws with 14 seconds left to seal Prairie View’s win.
Deloach scored 16 of his team-high 20 points in the game’s last 7:30 minutes and hit a career-high three 3-pointers.
Ezeh added six rebounds for Prairie View.
Prairie View shot 48 percent from the field for the game to Norfolk State’s 47 percent.
