Cruze scores in the finals seconds to help Holy Cross beat Ohio U. 62-60
WORCESTER, Mass. (AP)—Kyle Cruze capped an end-to-end drive with the winning basket with 3.6 seconds remaining to give Holy Cross a 62-60 victory over Ohio University on Monday night.
Ohio’s Michael Allen had tied the game at 60 with a 3-point field goal on the previous possession.
Justin Orr scored 18 points for Ohio (2-1), which played without leading scorer Justin Tillman, who was out because of illness.
The Bobcats took a 34-28 lead on a basket by Bubba Walther with 18:52 left and still led 41-37 on two free throws by Orr with 11:34 remaining. But Colin Cunningham, who had 12 points, sparked a 15-5 run that gave Holy Cross a 52-46 lead with 6:32 left.
After Tim Clifford’s layup gave Holy Cross a 59-53 lead with 2:43 left, Orr hit a 3 and Leon Williams added a free throw that made it a 59-57 game with 41 seconds remaining.
Pat Doherty, who had 12 points, made one of two free throws and Allen then tied it with his 3 in transition.
