Urbanus’ key 3s lead Citadel to 76-73 win over Chas. Southern
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP)—Zach Urbanus scored 21 points, including the 3-pointer that put The Citadel up for good with 2:56 left, as the Bulldogs beat Charleston Southern 76-73 on Monday night.
The Citadel (3-3) trailed for most of the game before Urbanus’ buried a 3 that put the Bulldogs ahead 65-64 with 4:33 left.
After a layup by Omar Carter put the Buccaneers (3-3) back up one, Urbanus hit another 3 and The Citadel would never trail again. Urbanus made five of his six shots behind the arc.
The Bulldogs hit eight of 10 free throws down the stretch to break a five game losing streak against Charleston Southern that went back to 1998.
The Citadel shot 55.6 percent (25-of-45) from the field, compared to 44.4 percent (28-of-63) for the Buccaneers.
Jamarco Warren led Charleston Southern with 22 points, while Carter added 17 points.
Cameron Wells scored 15 points and Demetrius Nelson added 12 points and eight rebounds for the Bulldogs.
