Adler leads Fla. Gulf Coast past Md.-Eastern Shore 71-58
SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas (AP)—Landon Adler had 17 points and 10 rebounds and Adam Liddell scored 15 to lead Florida Gulf Coast past Maryland-Eastern Shore 71-58 in the South Padre Island Invitational on Saturday.
A day after being manhandled by Austin Peay, Florida Gulf Coast’s big men responded with 43 points and 28 rebounds. Liddell had eight rebounds, and Terike Barrowes matched Adler with 10 boards while scoring 11 points.
Gulf Coast (2-4) jumped to a 9-0 lead and held the Hawks to 23 points on 40 percent shooting in the first half.
Eastern Shore (1-5) held the Eagles scoreless for six minutes of the second half and pulled with two with 8:25 left before Gulf Coast retook control by going back to its big men.
Ed Tyson led Eastern Shore with 16 points, five rebounds and four assists and made the all-tournament team. Marc Davis had 13 points and five assists.
Adler was an all-tournament pick for Gulf Coast, which outrebounded Eastern Shore 50-31 and had 14 second-chance points.
