Drake 80, Wis.-Milwaukee 59
MILWAUKEE (AP)—Josh Young scored 24 points and Drake unleashed a barrage of 3-pointers to defeat Wisconsin-Milwaukee 80-59 Saturday night.
The Bulldogs (3-1) did not lose their shooting touch during a 10-day layoff as they connected on 13-of-26 3-pointers. Young made six 3-pointers and Leonard Houston two as he scored 15 points.
Jonathan Cox added 11 points and Klayton Korver and Brent Heemskerk 10 apiece for Drake. Cox hit all three 3-pointers he tried.
Drake defeated Milwaukee 84-76 last February in an ESPN Bracket Buster game in Des Moines, Iowa.
The Panthers (3-2) were led by Roman Gentry with 12 points and Paige Paulsen with 11.
Drake hit 9-of-15 3-pointers to coast to a 40-30 halftime lead.
Milwaukee pulled to within five points at 42-37 in the second period after a 3-pointer by Paige Paulsen and a basket by Gentry. But Young nailed another 3-pointer to boost the lead back to 8 points and Milwaukee never got that close again.
In the first period, the Bulldogs scored 11 straight points to go ahead 18-9 with 13:37 left. The run ended with three consecutive 3-pointers, two by Young and one by Cox.
