Vermont 59, Towson 57
BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP)—Colin McIntosh hit a 3-pointer with 5.4 seconds remaining to break a tie and give Vermont a 59-57 win over Towson on Saturday.
Mike Trimboli scored a game-high 22 points while Marqus Blakely and Kyle Cieplicki each added 12 for the Catamounts (2-3).
With the score tied at 54-54, Blakely stole the ball at midcourt and took it in for a dunk to give Vermont a 2-point lead with 42 seconds remaining.
A pair of free throws by Towson’s Jonathan Pease tied the score with 23 seconds to play.
The Catamounts worked the clock down until Trimboli drove, drewng the defense, and kicked it to McIntosh who hit the shot to make it 59-56.
After a timeout, Towson (2-2) Rodney Spruill got fouled with 2.2 seconds left. He made one of two, but the second one went out of bounds. Towson’s Tim Crossin missed a 3-pointer as the buzzer sounded.
Junior Hairston led Towson with 19 points and a game-high 15 rebounds, while Spruill added 12.
