McDaniel, Bright lead Sam Houston State past Fresno State 68-57

HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP)—Shamir McDaniel and Ryan Bright each had a double-double to lead Sam Houston State past Fresno State 68-57 Saturday night.

McDaniel had 13 points and 11 rebounds, and Bright added 11 points and a game-high 14 boards for the Bearkats (4-0). McDaniel also had five assists and three steals, while Bright contributed three assists and two blocks.

DeLuis Ramirez led Sam Houston with 14 points, and James Barrett was the fourth player in double figures with 11.

The Bulldogs (3-3) shot just 28 percent for the game, including 3-of-24 from 3-point range. Hector Hernandez led Fresno State with 17 points and nine rebounds.

Fresno trailed by five at halftime but pulled within a point at 36-35 early in the second half. Barrett answered with a layup to keep Sam Houston in front.
