PHILADELPHIA (AP)—Darnell Harris scored 18 points, including a key 3-point shot, and La Salle fought off a late St. Francis, Pa., rally to defeat the Red Flash 65-59 on Saturday.
Chris Berry had 14 points and Cale Nelson 12 for St. Francis (0-5), off to its worst start since the 1930-31 season.
The Explorers (2-2) led 50-42 with 7:51 left to play, but Marquis Ford sparked an 11-0 Red Flash run to earn a 53-50 lead.
St. Francis led 57-56 with 2:07 to go, but Harris sank a shot from behind the arc at the 1:30 mark, and Jerrell Williams followed with a layup 23 seconds later to secure the win.
The Explorers used two spurts to account for their 37-27 halftime lead. Trailing 12-5, they ran off 16 straight points. Then, after St. Francis closed to within 21-20, La Salle tallied nine in a row for a 30-20 lead.
