UC Davis holds off late Portland State run to win, 76-68
DAVIS, Calif. (AP)—Junior Kyle Brucculeri had 26 points, 12 rebounds and made six key free throws down the stretch to help UC Davis withstand a late rally to beat Portland State 76-68 on Saturday night.
Vince Oliver made all eight of his free throws to finish with 19 points and six rebounds for the Aggies (4-2).
Scott Morrison had 13 points, and Deonte Huff, Tyrell Mara, and Julius Thomas added 10 points each for the Vikings (3-3).
Behind by 19 points early in the second half, the Vikings kept chipping away at UC Davis’ lead, cutting the margin to three points on a high-arching 3-point shot by Dupree Lucas to make the score 69-66 with 1:11 left.
Brucculeri made six of the Aggies last seven free throws with 1:02 remaining to pull out the victory.
The Aggies had an excellent first half against the Vikings by making 15 of 26 shots from the floor, 7 of 8 three points, and all six free throws to lead 43-22 at halftime. Brucculeri was 5-for-5 from the floor, including three 3-point shots to finish with 14 points in the first half.
