Valparaiso rides 3-point shooting to beat Austin Peay 61-47
SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas (AP)—Samuel Haanpaa made six 3 pointers and scored 21 points to lead Valparaiso past Austin Peay 61-47 at the South Padre Island Invitational on Saturday.
The Crusaders (4-1) made 11 3-pointers, but Shawn Huff’s work around the basket was important, too. He scored seven straight points and had a pair of key rebounds to blow open a close game in the second half. Huff finished with 11 points and nine rebounds.
Fernandez Lockett led the Governors (2-3) with 14 points and 12 rebounds, and Wes Channels scored 12 off the bench.
A day after scoring 21 points to lead Austin Peay past Florida Gulf Coast, Drake Reed was held four points, two rebounds and an assist. He still made the all-tournament team, though, along with Huff.
