Austin Peay 67, Fla Gulf Coast 57
SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas (AP)—Drake Reed scored 21 points to lead Austin Peay to a 67-57 over Florida Gulf Coast at the South Padre Island Invitational on Friday.
The Governors (2-2) jumped out to a 14-point lead in the first half. But Florida Gulf Coast guard Casey Wohlleb kept his team in the game with 18 points before the break, including a half-court shot that beat the halftime buzzer.
The Eagles (1-4) scored five straight points to open the second half and tie the game. But that’s when Austin Peay took control, opening up a 13-point lead that the Eagles couldn’t overcome.
The Governors used a full-court press to force 20 turnovers and controlled the glass, grabbing 11 offensive rebounds.
Austin Peay will play the winner of the game between Valparaiso and Maryland-Eastern Shore on Saturday. Florida Gulf Coast will play the loser.
