Chris Moore scores 27 points Charleston Southern win over North Florida
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP)—Senior guard Chris Moore scored 27 points, and Charleston Southern shot 51 percent from the floor, to propel the Buccaneers to a 72-61 win over North Florida in on Friday night.
CSU (3-2) also dominated on the boards, outrebounding the Ospreys 46-30, taking advantage of a UNF lineup that was without a pair of key forwards due to injury. Freshmen DeVon Jones was sidelined by a concussion, while freshman Justin Cecil was limited to just two minutes due to a sprained ankle.
UNF (1-4) shot only 37 percent for the game and hit just 13 of 28 free throws, including an 8-for-21 effort in the second half. Senior James Grimball recorded his 11th career double-double with 15 points with 10 rebounds for the Ospreys. Omar Carter finished with a double-double for CSU, scoring 10 points and grabbing 12 rebounds.
The teams battled back and forth early on before CSU finally took control before halftime with a 12-2 run, fueled by six points from Moore. The Ospreys trailed 36-27 at the intermission.
In the second half, the Ospreys sliced their deficit to 52-50 with 7:41 remaining on Ian Gibson’s layup, but five quick points by the Buccaneers thwarted the rally. A four-minute scoring drought by UNF after that all but sealed the game.
