Valparaiso 66, Md-Eastern Shore 55
SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas (AP)—Bryan Bouchie scored a game-high 23 points to lead Valparaiso to a 66-55 win over Maryland-Eastern Shore in the third round of the South Padre Island Invitational on Friday.
Urule Igbavboa and Bouchie set the pace early by combining to score 22 of the Crusaders’ 27 first-half points, giving Valparaiso (3-1) a one-point lead at the break.
The Hawks (1-4) were able to stay in the game by shooting 82 percent from the foul line and because of an opportunistic defense that forced Valparaiso into 16 turnovers.
Maryland-Eastern Shore made it a two-point game with 5:20 to go thanks to Ed Tyson, who scored 13 of his 20 points in the second half. Marc Davis chipped in with 12 points and three assists.
But Bouchie proved to be too much in the end, scoring eight straight points down the stretch to keep the Crusaders comfortably ahead.
The Crusaders will play Austin Peay on Saturday while Maryland-Eastern Shore will face Florida Gulf Coast.
