Bradley 67, Iowa 56
SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas (AP)—Daniel Ruffin finished with career highs in points and steals to lead Bradley to a 67-56 win over Iowa in the third round of the South Padre Island Invitational on Friday.
Ruffin finished with 24 points and five steals, and many of his points seemed to come when Iowa moved within striking distance.
Bradley (4-1) entered the halftime break with a 37-30 lead following a 3-pointer at the horn by Andrew Warren. The Braves then started the second half on a 10-3 run to jump out to a 47-33 lead with 14:13 left.
The Hawkeyes (4-1) cut the lead to 47-40 on an alley-oop dunk by Kurt Looby with 11:00 left in the game. Iowa would get as close as five before Ruffin hit a 3-pointer and forward Theron Wilson slammed home a miss to extend the lead back to 10 with about seven minutes to go.
Wilson finished two points shy of a double-double with eight points and 12 rebounds.
It was the first time since 1982 that Bradley beat a Big Ten opponent away from home.
Justin Johnson finished with 16 points and five rebounds for Iowa. Looby chipped in 12 points and eight rebounds.
