LOS ANGELES (AP)—Tremaine Townsend and Rodrigue Mels each scored a season-best 16 points to lead Cal State Northridge to a 92-76 victory over Cal State Bakersfield Wednesday night.

Jonathan Heard scored 13 points, while Calvin Chitwood and Josh Jenkins added 11 points apiece for the Matadors (3-0). Townsend also had 10 rebounds.

Meanwhile, Terrence Johns scored 25 points to lead Bakersfield (1-4). Zack Gramick added 15 points and Santwon Latunde scored nine of his 13 in the first half for the Roadrunners.

Rob Haynes scored nine of his 13 points in a decisive 19-8 first-half run, putting Bakersfield down 35-20 with 8 minutes, 41 seconds remaining.

The Roadrunners, playing their first Division I season, never got closer than nine points.
