Idaho St. beats Montana St.-Northern 76-69
POCATELLO, Idaho (AP)—Idaho State center Lucas Steijn had 15 points and eight rebounds Wednesday night as the Bengals got their first victory of the season, beating Montana State-Northern 76-69.
Bengals’ guards Logan Kinghorn and Matt Stucki had 13 and 12 points, respectively.
Guard Austin Kilpatrick had five of eight blocked shots for Idaho State (1-3).
Montana State-Northern was led by guard Travis Noble, the only Idaho player on the Montana team’s roster, who finished with 18 points. Also scoring in double figures for the Skylights (6-1) were guards Delvaughn Tinned with 14 and Andrew Sellars with 11.
Forward Clinton Shelton had 10 rebounds for Montana State-Northern.
Idaho State hit 50 percent of its field goal attempts, but hit only one of nine from 3-point range. Montana State-Northern’s long-range shooting—12 out of 23 3-point attempts for a 52.2 percent average—kept the Skylights in the game. They drew within two points at 60-58 with just under 10 minutes remaining.
In the first half, Idaho State held a 15-point lead with 4:10 remaining, but Montana State-Northern went on a 16-4 scoring run to narrow the Bengals’ lead to 41-37 at halftime. Northern’s late first-half run was keyed by three consecutive 3-pointers in the last 1:43 by Noble.
