Hayes’s double-double leads Detroit past Chicago State
DETROIT (AP)—Chris Hayes had his first double-double Wednesday and Detroit ended a two-game losing streak with a 77-66 victory over Chicago State.
Hayes had 16 points, 12 rebounds and six assists—all career highs—for the Titans (2-2).
Detroit outscored the Cougars 22-3 during a seven-minute stretch of the first half to take the lead for good. The Titans led 41-30 at intermission and went on a 17-2 run early in the second half to put the game away.
Josh Samarco scored 14 points and Justin Sample had a career-best 10 for Detroit, which scored 26 points off Chicago State’s 15 turnovers.
David Holston and John Cantrell, both of whom prepped in Detroit’s northern suburbs, had 27 and 19 points, respectively, for Chicago State (2-3).
