Oliver leads UC Davis to win over Nicholls State, 69-67
DAVIS, Calif. (AP)—Junior Vince Oliver had 19 points and five rebounds to help UC Davis beat Nicholls State 69-67 on Wednesday night.
Freshman Ryan Silva came off the bench to score 16 points, including four 3-point baskets for the Aggies (3-2).
Michael Czepil had 15 points and Ryan Bathie added 14 points for the Colonels (1-4).
The Aggies took an eight-point lead on two straight baskets by Dominic Calegari to make the score 58-50 with less than 10 minutes left in the second half.
The Colonels cut UC Davis’ lead 67-65 on a basket by Bathie with 2:01 remaining. But air balls launched by Nicholls State and two free throws by Oliver at the 1:37 mark ensured an Aggies victory despite a tip-in at the buzzer by Czepil to end the game.
The game was tied six times before the Colonels ended the first half leading 33-32 on two free throws by freshman Bakari Lewis with :16.4 seconds left.
While the Aggies made 19 of 22 free-throw attempts, both teams combined for 30 fouls in the first half.
