Socoby finishes with 29 points in Maine’s 64-59 win over Quinnipiac
HAMDEN, Conn. (AP)—Mark Socoby hit five three-pointers and finished with 29 points to lead Maine to a 64-59 win over Quinnipiac in a non-conference game Tuesday.
Socoby scored eight points in a 13-2 run early in the second half to help the Bears open up a 51-32 lead. The teams traded baskets and Maine led 55-36 when Quinnipiac (1-2) went on a 14-0 run to cut it to 55-50 with 2:35 left to play.
Quinnipiac never got any closer. Socoby hit four free throws down the stretch and Junior Bernal had a three-point play to give Maine a 60-52 advantage.
DeMario Anderson led the Bobcats with 29 points and Louis Brookins added 14. Anderson also had 10 rebounds in the game, and Bernal finished with 14 points.
Maine scored the first four points of the game and never trailed. The Bears led 28-24 at the half.
Socoby finished 10-10 from the line and was one of three Maine players with seven rebounds.
