Spruill helps lead Towson to 73-66 win over Samford
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP)—Rodney Spruill had 15 points and eight rebounds to help lead Towson to a 73-66 victory over Samford Tuesday night.
Towson (2-1) led for much of the first half, but Samford (1-2) pulled ahead with 41 seconds to go on a layup by Travis Peterson for a 31-30 lead going into the half. Towson took back the lead with 7:44 left in the game and never gave it up again.
Towson had three other double figure scorers. Tim Crossin had 14 points, while Rocky Coleman and Junior Hairston added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Peterson led Samford with 19 points. Curtis West and Joe Ross Merritt added 12 points each. West also had 11 rebounds, giving him a double-double.
The Bulldogs shot better from the floor than the Tigers, but committed eight more turnovers, for a season-high 16 turnovers. Samford outshot Towson 46.3 percent to 41.9 percent.
