PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP)—Hamady Ndiaye had eight points, nine rebounds and four blocked shots and Rutgers survived a scare before defeating Dartmouth 55-50 Tuesday night.

Jaron Griffin had 11 points and Anthony Farmer added 10 for Rutgers (4-1), while Dartmouth (1-3) was led by Alex Barnett’s 16 points. The Knights’ J.R. Inman was averaging 20 points entering the game but was held to nine.

After trailing for much of the second half, Rutgers tied it at 39-39 with 10:21 remaining, and took its first lead of the half at 43-41. The Knights opened a 52-46 advantage with 5:16 left, but did not score for the next 4:39 as four points by Barnett cut the margin to two.

Coming out of a timeout, Rutgers ran 28 seconds off the shot clock before Farmer found Byron Joynes for a dunk with 37 seconds remaining. Michael Giovacchini then missed a three-pointer for Dartmouth and Rutgers’ Mike Coburn made a foul shot to seal it.

Joynes finished with eight rebounds and four blocks.

The Knights shot just 41 percent (1-for-14 from three-point range) and had 18 turnovers, but Dartmouth could not capitalize as it shot just 31 percent.

Three dunks by Ndiaye helped Rutgers jump to an 8-3 lead, but from that point Dartmouth outscored the Knights 27-13 for a 30-21 halftime advantage. The Big Green held their margin despite 35 percent shooting, as Rutgers also shot 35 percent and committed nine turnovers.

After making its first four shots of the game, Rutgers went 4-for-19 the rest of the half and had one drought of 6:43 without a basket and another of 4:28 without a point.
