Oral Roberts outdistances Louisiana-Lafayette for 62-53 victory
TULSA, Okla. (AP)—Robert Jarvis scored 10 of his game-high 19 points in the final 2:35 to preserve Oral Roberts’ 62-53 victory over Louisiana-Lafayette Tuesday night.
Jarvis, a 5-11 junior guard, also had seven rebounds for the Golden Eagles (2-2), who also got a career-high 13 points, eight rebounds and four assists from Yemi Ogunoye.
David Dees paced the Ragin’ Cajuns (1-2) with 10 points.
ORU led 46-35 before Louisiana-Lafayette went on a 10-4 run to cut its deficit to 50-45 with three minutes left. Jarvis, however, countered with a basket and sank 8-of-8 free throws in the last two minutes to seal the victory for ORU.
The Golden Eagles led 27-25 at intermission before Ogunoye began the second half with a 3-pointer. Shawn King had six of his eight points in a three-minute span and Marcus Lewis scored his only basket after intermission to help ORU take its biggest lead, 43-30, midway through the second half. Lewis finished with 13 points.
Oral Roberts outrebounded Louisiana-Lafayette 40-27. The Golden Eagles made 22-of-32 free throws compared to 7-of-11 by Louisiana-Lafayette.
Moses Ehambe’s basket opened scoring in the first half and ORU never trailed.
The Golden Eagles led 22-12 before Elijah Millsap scored seven points in the Ragin Cajuns’ 13-5 spurt over the final 6:35 of the half.
