Ruoff leads West Virginia over Prairie View A&M

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP)—Alex Ruoff scored 22 points and West Virginia coasted to a 106-41 win over Prairie View A&M on Sunday.

The Mountaineers (2-0) opened a 20-3 lead with 12:31 left in the first half behind a strong defense that forced 34 turnovers on the night. WVU led by 36 at the half.

Ruoff, who scored 17 points in West Virginia’s opening win, made eight of nine shots overall and did not miss from behind the three-point line. As a team, WVU hit 15-of-26 shots (57.7 percent) from 3-point range. Overall, the Mountaineers shot 54.7 percent.

Jamie Smalligan and Darris Nichols added 13 points apiece for West Virginia.

Prairie View was led by Aaron Smith’s 14 points. Brian Ezeh scored 10.

The game was part of the Legends Classic. Next up for West Virginia is Tennessee on Friday.
