Tresvant leads Cal State Northridge over Pepperdine, 97-89
MALIBU, Calif. (AP)—Deon Tresvant scored 14 of his 20 points in the second half and Tremaine Townsend had 14 points and nine rebounds as Cal State Northridge beat Pepperdine 97-89 Saturday night.
Tyrone Shelley sank six 3-pointers and scored a career-best 34 points for the Waves (0-4).
Pepperdine—which trailed by 18 points late in the second half—hit an 11-2 run and came within five points with 1:24 to play. But Rob Haynes 3-pointer with one minute to go snuffed out the Pepperdine rally. Haynes finished with 10 points.
Earlier, Josh Jenkins’ layup capped a 9-1 spurt and gave the Matadors a 17-point lead with seven minutes to play. Jenkins finished with 15 points and six assists.
Jonathan Heard scored 13 for Northridge (2-0), which outrebounded Pepperdine, 50-43.
Daniel Johnson had 13 points and Malcolm Thomas scored 11 with 13 rebounds.
Jayme Miller grabbed 10 rebounds for the Matadors, who took a 38-29 lead after a 12-2 first-half run, then closed out the half leading 48-43.
Northridge never trailed in the second half.
