Lewis’s 26 points lead Niagara over Cent. Michigan, 79-73
LEWISTON, N.Y. (AP)—Sophomore Tyrone Lewis scored a career high 26 points to lead Niagara to a 79-73 victory over Central Michigan in a non-conference game Friday night.
Lewis, who was the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament MVP last season as he led the Purple Eagles to their second league title in three years, also had a team-high seven rebounds for Niagara (1-0).
Senior Charron Fisher added 20 points for Niagara. He eclipsed the 1,000-point mark for his career, finishing the game with 1,021. Anthony Nelson had 13 points in his collegiate debut for Niagara.
Niagara never trailed, leading by as many as 16 points (20-4) with 13:35 remaining in the first half. Central Michigan (0-3) cut the deficit to as few as two points (41-39) with 16:05 left in the second half, but could never take the lead.
Junior Nate Minnoy came off the bench to lead the Chippewas with 21 points. Giordan Wastson had 18 points and Marko Spica added 11.
