San Jose St. 64, Appalachian St. 62
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP)—Justin Graham made a short jumper with 1 second left to lead San Jose State to a 64-62 victory Friday over Appalachian State in the second day of the First Shot Exempt Tournament.
Graham scored 13 points to top a balanced scoring attack for the Spartans (2-0).
Appalachian State (1-2) had tied the game 62-62 with 44 seconds left on two free throws by Ryann Abraham.
San Jose led most of the game, trailing for the last time 60-59 with 2:36 left.
Tim Pierce scored 11 points for San Jose and DaShawn Wright added 10.
The Mountaineers were led by Kellen Brand with 18 points, Donte Minter with 13, Abraham with 11 and Eduardo Bermudez with 10.
San Jose controlled the boards, 51-35, and made 19-of-25 free throws to just 12-of-21 by the Mountaineers.
