E. Washington uses big second-half run to beat UC Riverside 59-51
CHENEY, Wash. (AP)—Kellen Williams scored 17 points and grabbed 13 rebounds and Eastern Washington used a big second-half rally to beat UC Riverside 59-51 on Thursday night.
Freshman Trey Gross hit four free throws in the final minute and finished with 15 points for the Eagles (1-2), who used a 26-6 burst to start the second half to overcome the Highlanders (0-3).
Marcus Hinton added 14 points for Eastern and made all eight of his free-throw attempts second-half run.
Larry Cunningham scored 20 points for UC Riverside, which raced to a 20-6 lead and led 33-22 at halftime. Jalonni Diggs added 11 points for the Highlanders, which led by as many as 14.
Eastern hit just 1 of 13 shots to start the game, but got within 22-14 on consecutive 3-pointers from Williams. Eastern didn’t grab its first lead until Hinton’s two foul shots put the Eagles up 37-35 with 13:14 left in the game.
