Wright scores 19 points to lead St. John’s past St. Francis, N.Y. 72-64

NEW YORK (AP)—Larry Wright scored 19 points to help St. John’s beat St. Francis, N.Y. 72-64 on Wednesday night.

Justin Burrell added 12 points for the Red Storm in their season opener. St. John’s jumped out to a 12-4 lead as Tomas Jasiulionis scored six points during the spurt.

They held a 36-33 lead at the half before St. Francis rallied to take a 45-43 lead with 13:53 left.

With the game tied at 47, the Red Storm used a 18-5 run, capped with a 3-pointer by Eugene Lawrence to take 65-52 lead with 4:09 left.

Robert Hines scored 19 points to lead the Terriers (1-1).

It was St. John’s 29th victory in the last 30 meetings between the two schools.
