Harris gets 23 points in Massachusetts’ 89-80 win over Yale
AMHERST, Mass. (AP)—Ricky Harris led a foursome in double figures as Massachusetts took control in the final minutes to turn back Yale, 89-80, in the home opener for the Minutemen Wednesday night.
Harris ended with 23 points, followed by Gary Forbes with 19, Dante Milligan with 17 and Etiene Brower with 12. The win lifted UMass to 3-1. Yale fell to 1-1.
Harris and Milligan scored to break a 59-59 tie. But it was still a four-point game at 78-74 until Forbes made a pair from the line and Harris converted on a breakaway to make it 82-74 with 2:40 play.
Caleb Holmes with 23 points and Matt Kyle with 20 were the top producers for Yale.
The lead changed hands 13 times in the first half. Etiene Brower broke a 35-35 tie with a 3-pointer that put UMass on top for good in the half. The Minutemen led by as many at seven points at 46-39 before Yale narrowed the gap at halftime on a 3-pointer by Eric Flato.
Forbes had 13 of his points and Brower 12 before intermission. Kyle had 13 for the Bulldogs in the first half.
