Panthers 3-point shooting helps overcome Cardinals
MUNCIE, Ind. (AP)—Torre Johnson scored 19 points and grabbed 13 rebounds and Wisconsin-Milwaukee beat Ball State 81-74 in overtime Wednesday night.
Paige Paulsen also had 19 for the Panthers (2-0), who trailed 35-20 at the half but outshot the Cardinals 47-32 after the break to force overtime. Ricky Franklin had 11 points.
Anthony Newell led Ball State (0-2) with 29 points and 10 rebounds. Laron Frazier had 19 for the Cardinals, who led by as many as 17 early in the second half.
The teams’ field-goal shooting was nearly evenly matched at about 40 percent, but the Panthers shot 9 of 29 from 3-point range compared with Ball State’s 2 of 12.
With the score tied at 67-67 at the end of regulation, Wisconsin-Milwaukee outscored the Cardinals 14-7 in overtime for the win.
