Sharp-shooting Utah Valley State beats Arkansas State 67-63
JONESBORO, Ark. (AP)—Utah Valley State, fueled by Ryan Toolson’s 20 points, built up a lead early in the second half and kept it to defeat Arkansas State 67-63 in the Indians’ home opener Wednesday.
Toolson was 4-of-7 in 3-pointers, and the Wolverines finished with four players in double digits.
The Wolverines (1-2) shot 51 percent from the field and 44 percent in 3-pointers, compared with Arkansas State’s 34 percent from the field and 37 percent in threes.
Adrian Banks led the Indians (0-1) with 25 points, and Ryan Wedel chipped in 17.
Arkansas State pulled within three points with 44 seconds remaining on a layup by Banks, but Utah Valley State kept its lead with 4 good free throws from Toolson and a pair from Josh Olsen.
Olsen finished with 12 points for the Wolverines, Jordan Brady added 14 and Richard Troyer had 10.
