Giles leads five in double-digit scoring in 80-67 win
FARMVILLE, Va. (AP)—Brandon Giles had 17 points and led five Lancers who scored in the double digits as Longwood beat Norfolk State 80-67 Tuesday night.
Dana Smith and Ryan Bogan added 15 points each, Kirk Williams had 14 and Lamar Barrett had 13.
Norfolk State (1-1) scored the first five points, but Williams’ jumper with 16:51 remaining in the first half gave the Lancers the lead and they never trailed again. Longwood (1-1) led 35-28 at the half.
Back-to-back 3-pointers and a free throw by Tony Murphy brought Norfolk State to within 2, at 45-43, with 12:53 remaining. Larry Vickers followed with back-to-back dunks to again bring the Spartans to within 2, but Longwood answered with an 8-2 run to go ahead 57-49 with 11:09 left to play. The Lancers extended their lead to as many as 15 in the half.
Murphy led Norfolk State with 20, followed by Michael Deloach with 11 points and Vickers with 10.
Longwood dominated the boards, outrebounding the Spartans 39-24 and outscoring them 16-3 in second-chance points.
