First-half run powers Colgate in non-conference win over Canisius
BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP)—Kyle Roemer scored 16 points to lead Colgate to a 61-47 win over Canisius College Tuesday night in non-conference basketball.
Roemer scored 10 of his points in the first half as Colgate (2-0) used a 15-0 run to blow the game open and take a 38-16 lead at halftime.
Colgate also got 12 points from Tim Pounds and 10 points from Daniel Waddy. Kendall Chones, son of former NBA player Jim Chones, had seven points and seven rebounds.
Canisius’ Pawel Malesa came off the bench to lead the Griffins with 16 points. Malesa sank three 3-point field goals in the first half.
The Raiders held Canisius (0-1) without a point for 7:57 in the first half as they pulled away to a 34-14 lead. Roemer recorded 10 points in the first half while Canisius committed 14 turnovers and made 6-of-26 field goals.
