Vaden leads UAB to 86-49 win over Stetson
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP)—Robert Vaden scored 19 points and Reggie Huffman added 18 to lead UAB to an 86-49 victory over Stetson Tuesday night.
Vaden, a junior transfer from Indiana University, was playing his first home game at UAB. Lawrence Kinnard came off the bench to score 15 points for the Blazers (2-0).
Sheldon Oliver scored 10 points, all in the second half, to lead Stetson (1-1). A.J. Smith had nine points for the Hatters.
Paul Delaney III had an excellent all-around game for UAB, finishing with eight points, 10 rebounds and six assists.
The game was tied early, but a tip-in by Huffman and a 3-pointer by Vaden helped UAB open a 29-21 lead. The Blazers led 33-23 at halftime, and Huffman scored three straight baskets to open the second half and break the game open.
UAB built at 29-point lead with just under 10 minutes left and coasted the rest of the way. The Blazers shot 63.5 percent from the field for the game and scored 53 points in the second half.
