San Diego 87, Cal State Monterey Bay 76
SAN DIEGO (AP)—Ray Murdock scored a career-high 19 points and Brandon Johnson and Chris Lewis each had 16 to lead San Diego to an 87-76 win over Cal State Monterey Bay Monday night.
Murdock, one of five Toreros who scored double figures, hit 7-of-9 shots from the field, including four 3-pointers. Danny Brown had 11 points and Gyno Pomare added 10.
Lewis tied his career high in points and Johnson scored all his points in the first half as San Diego (2-0) took a 45-32 halftime lead. Johnson also had seven assists and seven rebounds.
San Diego led by 23 points on two occasions in the second half, the last time at the 8:57 mark.
D’Shon Cannon and Augie Johnston led Cal State Monterey Bay, a NCAA Division II school, with 15 points apiece. Joe Mitchell added 12 points for the Otters, who played the game as an exhibition.
