Sacramento State wins home opener against Simpson, 104-71
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP)—Loren Leath had 27 points, including six 3-point shots, to lead Sacramento State over Simpson College 104-71 on Monday night.
Justin Williams added 19 points, nine rebounds and three blocked shots, and freshman Vinnie McGhee had 16 points, 12 assists, and five rebounds to help the Hornets (1-1) win its ninth consecutive home opener.
Sacramento State had its biggest lead in game when junior Donald Thomas hit two free throws to make the score 95-53 with 10:02 left in the game.
Leath (16), Williams (15) and McGhee (12) combined for 43 points to give the Hornets to a 63-34 halftime lead. McGhee also had nine assists and three steals in the first half.
Sophomore Micah Eppler came off the bench to hit five 3-point shots to finish with 15 points for the Red Hawks (0-6).
