Johnson pours in 32 as Pacific beats Pepperdine

EUGENE, Ore. (AP)—Steffan Johnson scored a career-high 32 points to lift Pacific to an 84-76 win over Pepperdine at the World Vision International tournament on Monday.

Johnson was 9-for-16 from the field and 11-for-12 from the free-throw line in 31 minutes. Johnson had 19 points in the first half to help Pacific take a 38-33 lead at the break.

Bryan LeDuc added 12 points for the Tigers (2-1), and Michael Nunnally scored 10 points and grabbed nine rebounds.

Daniel Johnson had 19 points to lead Pepperdine, which has opened the season with three straight losses.

Mike Hornbuckle added 17 points for the Waves and Rico Tucker had 14 off the bench.

Johnson scored 13 of Pacific’s first 15 points, including nine straight on three consecutive 3-pointers. Johnson’s free throws with 9:21 left gave the Tigers a 25-16 lead, their largest of the first half.

The Waves kept it close through the early stages of the second half before a tip-in by Chad Troyer made it 64-54 with 9:04 to play. A rebound basket by Pacific’s Joe Ford made it 77-63 with five minutes left.

Pacific held Pepperdine to 39 percent shooting, and outrebounded the Waves 42-33.
